So it was just your average Saturday afternoon in Melbourne as some of the biggest names on the planet hit the stages at Stereosonic. Artists including Afrojack, Armin Van Buuren, Kaskade, LMFAO, Benny Benassi, BT, EDX, Ferry Corsten and of course my beloved Avicii. Let me give you some background…

I’ve been passionate about electronic dance music (EDM) for quite some time now, and there have always been artists that I feel personally connected to. It really isn’t something you can explain, it’s inexplicable, the way a random collection of sounds can flow so seamlessly into your existence. And yet for some reason we depend on these artists to bring us happiness and to make us feel like we belong. Strangers who we’ve never met before and probably never will. Their music makes the bad days bearable… and the good ones even better. Their so called "art" has become necessary in our lives. Seeing this great man for the first time yesterday brought an entirely new "level" of "bromance" for me. For some reason this year I’ve felt I’ve been personally invested in Avicii’s success. There is just something so beautiful about his music.

Avicii creates music that you fall in love with. And it’s like falling for someone in real life, you can’t help but feel a great sensation every time you see them or feel them, this is exactly what he does to you with his music and it just grows and grows, taking you over a beat at a time.
Our experience hearing "Fade Into Darkness" wasn’t anything particularly exciting from the beginning, but then suddenly, the steady groove established in the first opening verse softly melts away, replaced instead by a perfect piano melody. That melody lingers idle for a little while, as it has nowhere to go but then gradually matures into an effortless progressive chorus. This chorus wasn’t just going to leave you… it had big plans. It wanted to capture the hearts and minds of the thousands of people around us turning people who just liked Avicii into diehard fans, making them scream like teenagers falling in love for the first time. It was incredible.

Then to hear Avicii’s signature song "Levels", was something I’ll never forget. There is just something about a large crowd yelling that melody line that takes you over and makes you feel like this is what life is all about. And here’s what I still can’t understand: what makes Avicii’s music so universally beloved? Why do people connect to his songs so easily, so powerfully? How does he appeal equally to EDM junkies and casual fans alike? It’s simple. Avicii makes music that’s easy to listen to. That signature Avicii sound, that “easiness,” makes his tracks just work.
(sorry for the shaking and hot girls in the way haha)
There’s something magical about music for young people, made by young people — and it’s producers like Avicii who are leading that charge. At 22, Avicii is at the crossroads between the joy of youth and the promise of adulthood — and his music expresses that optimism perfectly.
(wow… must watch!)
Avicii you are my hero, my idol, my life changing captivator and until we meet again…
I’ll be thinking of you…
